My Facebook was one of the few early profiles in the Caribbean to live stream when the social media giant started rolling out the new feature. Today streaming is no longer a novelty with every major platform offering some form of the service.
Just like most online services there are free and paid versions of streaming that provide various limitations and benefits.
There are typically two types of streaming, live streaming and cloud streaming which some media providers call “auto dj”.
Both types operate with the same principle. A source is connected to a streaming server, the stream server distributes the media and a player decodes the stream on the receiver’s playback device.
The variable that changes in a live or cloud stream is mainly the source. In a cloud stream, a hosted playlist is set up as the source. In a professional live stream, broadcast equipment is set up to feed the source encoder.
